Ben obtained a PhD in the field of spatial psychoacoustics in 2005. Since then he has designed hardware, software, and DSP algorithms for various companies including Cadac, Focusrite, and ROLI.

Last year, Ben left a perfectly good job at ROLI to return to the field of spatial acoustics as a solo inventor, attempting to improve the experience of listening to music over headphones. This has involved developing a head tracker that is suited to the enjoyment of music, a binaural rendering engine that is worth listening to, and the beginnings of a user experience that isn't a complete mess.

Ben's ADC talk this year comes from two related missions: to understand the technical and commercial realities of Immersive Audio, and to try to convince others to take it seriously as a creative medium.
